[Closed] The Amazing August Aztecan Dorm and Fishing Contest

As the sun begins to set on Summer with young wizards getting ready to head back to Ravenwood, we’re excited to announce the Amazing August Aztecan Dorm and Fishing Contests. Whether you’re a housing aficionado or an amazing angler, you could win some awesome Aztecan themed prizes!

Decorators rejoice! Our Dorm contest will run for two weeks, from now until Monday, August 24th. Our Fishing contest will run for one week, from now until Monday, August 17th, for you fellow fisherman.

You may participate in both contests. However, you may only be eligible to win from one of the two. If you win a prize in the fishing contest, you will not win a prize in the dorm decorating contest, regardless of how exquisite your entry is.

“Jurassic Park meets Ravenwood” – Aztecan Dorm Contest

If you’ve been watching your Gobbler-Vision lately, you’ve probably gotten tired of watching reruns of Call of Khrulhu’s baking show. As you flip the channel on your remote, there is a movie from the spiral that is strangely similar to Jurrasic Park, which takes place in the world of Azteca. Channel your interior design senses and decorate your Ravenwood Dorm by creating a prehistoric atmosphere and encompassing the thematic behind the wonderful world of Azteca.

In order to keep things fair for everyone, you may not use any Aztecan Castle Blocks in your creation. You may however, use items from the Azteca Furniture Sets within the Crown Shop (22,500 Gold). The sky’s the limit!
Except the sky is currently falling in Azteca. Life finds a way.

Glitching is not required to win, although the Advanced Move tool can be very useful. You must stay within the dorm room space. Sinking items into walls is fine, however anything outside the walls cannot be seen via screenshot.

To Enter:

  1. Take one screenshot showing your housing UI along with your overhead name showing.
  2. Take one overall screenshot showcasing your dorm room without Photomancy.
  3. Take one-two screenshots showcasing your doom room with Photomancy.
  4. Write a paragraph explaining your design process and how you interpreted the theme.

Maximum 4 screenshots, no videos will be accepted. Send your 3-4 screenshots and explanation paragraph, in an email to contests@duelcircle.com. In the subject line, write “Aztecan Dorm contest”.

Emails must be sent by 11:59pm Eastern on Monday, August 24th to be entered! Winners will be emailed during the week of Tuesday, August 25th.

Aztecan Dorm Contest Winners

Thank you to everyone who submitted a Dorm entry. We are amazed by the creative talent from the community. Each entry was unique and different from one-another. Thus, we are pleased to announce our winners who went above and beyond.

1st Place Winner – Ellie Rose

“The Sky is Falling”

When interpreting the theme of this contest, the idea that came to mind led me to create an area inspired by a mixture of the Mesozoic era and ancient Aztec architecture. In this dorm, I envisioned a temple-pyramid safety base where people resided on for protection from the outside world. Any land unscathed by discovery belonged to the dinosaurs, which meant stepping foot into the unknown posed imminent danger for any Aztec who dared to venture.

Sometimes dinosaurs would break into the base, and when this happened, the Aztecs would run into the gated temple doors, which would be just big enough to run through, and at the same time, kept the dinosaurs out. While the Aztecs cleverly identified dinosaurs as their main threat, it was not until the day they turned to the commotion of the nearby mountain, that they felt a new profound danger.

2nd Place Winner – Scarlet Flame

It was the Aztecs that first created red dye from small bugs called cochineal insects that live on prickly pear cacti. There is plenty of red in my Aztecan dorm design to symbolize that
and also to symbolize fire. You can’t help but think of fire when you think of the Aztecs. Fire represents many things
It’s a purifier, a destroyer and a symbol of life, energy and change. It represents illumination and enlightenment, destruction and renewal, spirituality and damnation. A small fire was permanently kept burning in the center of every Aztec home in honor of the Aztecan God, Xiuhtecuhtli.

The Aztecs loved symbols of their Gods, animals and common items around them. They centered their lives around their religion and many of the statues and carvings of Aztec Gods were depicted as ‘hideous monsters.’ I’ve used the carvings (Aztecan Gods) and shields on the walls to show this symbolism. I’ve also included lots of drums in my design. Drums played a big part in the music of the Aztecs. Drums would accompany other instruments or be used alone when leading warriors into battle.

3rd Place Winner – Brand Brand

My main objective for this dorm build was to recreate an environment similar to the Saltmeadow Swamp but without the muddied water. The brick-walled pond was my starting point, and putting a translucent castle magic treasure card on it allowed me to use a floor tile of my choice. I then filled out the rest of the area with grassy mounds and scattered trees along the outside to open up a clearing of sorts around the main watering hole. Dinosaur montrology was added to bring life to the river and emphasize the Azteca/Prehistoric era theme. I really wanted to avoid creating a Jurassic Park or Zoo because it had recently won KingsIsles’ decorating contest and feared it would be redundant.
